The Patient Journey

From Check-In to Next Steps

Visiting a urologist can feel unfamiliar, but the process is more straightforward than most people expect. Here’s how your appointment and process is likely to unfold — step by step.

Medical aid

Medical aid and patient requirements

  1. We cover most medical aids. Here's a list.
  2. Our first consult is typically cash and you can claim back from the medical aid.
  3. Here ia detailed payments terms link

Bladder

Don’t Empty That Bladder Just Yet

  1. Most appointments start with a urine sample.
  2. A fuller bladder helps your doctor run the right tests (like infection screens or ultrasound).
  3. Tip: mention to the front desk if you’re ready to give a sample as soon as you arrive.

Patient History

A Few Questions Before We Begin

  1. You’ll probably be asked to fill out short forms or surveys.
  2. In the exam room, a nurse or doctor will ask about your medical history.
  3. Bring along a full list of your medications — including supplements or over-the-counter pills
  4. Sometimes, you may also be asked to track bathroom habits in a quick “bladder log.”

Physical examination

A Focused Physical Check

  1. The exam zeroes in on your urinary and reproductive health.
  2. Depending on your situation, this may include a genital check or, for men, a prostate exam.
  3. Other parts of your body may also be examined if they connect to your symptoms.

Imaging

Imaging for a Clearer Picture

  1. To see what’s happening inside, your urologist may order imaging tests.
  2. Ultrasound is common, but occasionally CT or MRI scans give deeper insight.
  3. These tools help pinpoint blockages, stones, or other issues without unnecessary procedures.

Tests and Bloods

In-Office Tests or Procedures (If Needed)

  1. On the same day, you might have a test like a cystoscopy (a tiny camera to check the bladder).
  2. Bladder function tests (urodynamics) are sometimes run for leakage or control issues.
  3. In rarer cases, a small tissue sample (biopsy) may be taken for analysis.

Care plan

Your Care Plan, Mapped Out

  1. After the exam, your doctor will explain their findings in plain language.
  2. Expect clear next steps: sometimes additional tests, sometimes lifestyle adjustments, sometimes treatment options.
  3. Think of this as your personalized roadmap forward.

Surgical interventions

Surgical interventions and procedures

  1. Surgical procedures are discussed with our patients
  2. Care and preparation is addressed
  3. Procedures are performed and post surgical care is monitored to ensure best outcomes
